    David Stowell resided in Watertown and Newton, Massachusetts, and Pomfret and Windham Willington, Connecticut.  He was a weaver in Massachusetts and a farmer in Connecticut.

    The Will of David Stoel of Willington, CT, dated 14 May 1763, probated 5 September 1763 with Mary Stowell and Moses Holmes as executors.

    Bequeaths to wife Mary Stoel all household furniture, also a horse, cow and six sheep and one-half of dwelling house, barn and farm and fire wood, suitably cut to fit the fire place, as long as she remains my widow.  To son David Stoel, one-half of dwelling house, barn and farm, all faming tools and all stock except that given widow.  To sons Isaac Stowell and Samuel Stoel the whole of 200 acres lying in Walpole, NH, to be divided equally.  To grandchildren Jonathan, Josiah, Eunice, and Patience Stoel, children of my late son Ebenezer Stoel, deceased, twenty shillings which upon consideration of a valuable portion I have heretofore given their father is their full portion of my estate.  To my daughters and their heirs, viz: Elizabeth Pulsifer, Jerusha Abbott, Anna Stoddard, Mary Royce, Susannah Lyon, Sarah Royce and Hittie Wright, thrity-five shillings.  To my daughter Patience Stoel and her heirs, ten pounds.  To my three sons, David, Isaac and Samuel Stoel, all my wearing apparel to be divided equally.

    David is described as David Stowell of Newton, Mass. in seven Middlesex County Deeds 1717 to 1724, as David Stowell of Pomfret, Conn. in nine Pomfred Deeds 1732 to 1745, as David Stoel of Pomfret in two Ashford deeds 1740 to 1749, as David Stoel of Windham, Conn. in three Windham deeds 1745 to 1751, as David Stoel of Windham in two Pomfret deeds in 1751, as David Stoel of Willington, Conn. in fourteen Willington deeds 1752 to 1763.  The name is spelled Stowell in three Newton and Andover marriage records.

    David Stowell and his wife joined Hampton Church, 5 September 1742.

    David Stowell selling dwelling in Newton, Mass., 26 Oct. 1724. (Midd. Deeds)  As his wife Patience died, 1 October 1724, five days after giving birth to Ebenezer, this sale may have been of his homestead prepatory to moving to Pomfret, where his name appears in 1725.

    Administration granted John Herrington, eldest son, 10 August 1741, on estate of John Herrington of Waltham. (Midd. Probate)  In the division 13 November 1741, it states "we cannot find that the children of Patience Herrington, deceased, the late wife of David Stowell, have received anything saving nine pounds paid their mother in her life time."

    David Stoel was undoubtedly a man of great energy and activity as is evidenced by his numerous purchases of land, frequent removals to new localities, etc.

    David married Mary Dillaway 1 Dec 1725, Newton, Middlesex Co., MA. Mary died Bef 1732. [Group Sheet]
