Elizabeth Darbe, (b. 6 Dec 1806, Stockbridge, Berkshire, MA), (d. 13 Dec 1903, Eau Claire, Marquette Co., WI), See notes on Enoch Gleason.

That Elizabeth was his wife documented in Brevard Co, FL SAT  BOOK 2 PAGE 152... A satisfaction of mortgage executed on 6 Jan 1894.  Was Charles Robert, also mentioned, their son?  Yes.

SOURCE: Deed between Elisha Darbe of Stockbridge, Berkshire County, Massachusetts, party of the first part, and Enoch Gleazen of Richford, Tioga Co., NY, party of the second part. Executed 22 May 1834. Enoch purchased land for $260.00.  The parcel:  All that certain piece or parcel of land lying and being in theTown of Berkshire and County of Tioga being part of lot #381 in the Grand Division of the Boston Purchase so called and bounded as follows viz:  Beginning at the southeast corner of eight acres of land sold off from the southwest corner of said lot for taxes and eight chains and ninty-eight links from the southwest corner of said lot at a stake and stone thence due east thirty-seven chains and seventy-four links to a stake and stone thence due north eleven chains and fifty-eight links thence due east eight chains and ninety-eight links to the place of beginning containing forty-six acres and forty hundredths be the same more or less.

The name of the newspaper was not given.  Mrs. Elizabeth Gleason, Born Dec. 6, 1806, Died Dec. 14, 1903:

"Mrs. Gleason
"Died, Dec. 14, at her home in this city, 405 South Farwell St., Mrs. Elizabeth Gleason, aged 97 years and 8 days.  She was born at Stockbridge, Mass., Dec. 6, 1806.  She is survived by her son, Chas. R. Gleason and her daughter, Mrs. Helen M. Ney.  Another son was Wm. H. Gleason, who was lieutenant-governor of Florida many years ago.  She had resided in Eau Claire about forty years.  She was a woman of unusually strong mind and physique.

"The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon from the family residence, 405 S. Farwell the Rev. L. C. Grant officiating."

"MORTUARY

"Mrs. Elizabeth Gleason, Widow of the late Enoch Gleason and mother of C. R. Gleason and Mrs. Helen M. Nay, died at her home, 405 South Farwell street, at 3:30 p. m. yesterday, aged 97 years and 7 days.  She was born in Stockbridge Berkshire County, Mass., December 6th, 1806.

"Funeral will be from her late home at 2 o'clock p. m. Wednesday.

"Mrs Elizabeth Gleason, who died yesterday, was one of the Old Settlers, having come to Eau Claire forty years ago.  Her husband came with her. He died about twelve years ago.  The deceased was a fine old lady, she was a great reader and was very intelligent.  Hers was indeed a wonderful record when she came into the world.  Napoleon had won the great battle of Austerlitz which made him master of Europe.  Mrs. Gleason remembered well reading when a child, of his final overthrow at Waterloo in 1815 and of his death in 1821. Thomas Jefferson was serving his second term at the time of her birth and when she was three years of age James Madison was inaugurated.  She lived to see no less than twenty-three presidents of the United States elected, a record almost unparallelled.  She was fully informed on all questions of American history and could converse intelligently on the same.  She was a lady whose character always commended (sic) respect.  She was a loving wife and a kind and indulgent parent, and was universally esteemed and respected."

Capt. Joseph Darby, born Feb 1789 Channel Islands, died in Halifax, NovaScotia on 25 April 1863. Married to Mary Stephens born in London in 1796, died in Halifax in 1863.
Joseph's parents were Joseph (d. 1818, Nova Scotia) and Martha.

Elizabeth married Enoch Gleason 7 Sep 1828. Enoch was born 3 Apr 1802, Berkshire, Tioga Co., NY; died 11 May 1891, Eau Claire, Marquette Co., WI. [Group Sheet]
