    Gosta Oldenburg, the Swedish Consul General in Chicago until his retirement in 1959, died on March 24 at New York Hospital. He was 98 years old and lived in Manhattan in recent years.

    The exact cause of death was not available.

    Mr. Oldenburg, a graduate of Uppsala University in Sweden, entered Swedish diplomatic service in 1920. He served in London, Berlin, Oslo and New York beform being posted to Chicago in 1936.

    Mr. Oldenburg is survived by two sons, Claes, the artist known for his large public sculptures, and Richard, the director of the Mureum of Modern Art, both of Manhattan.
