Mrs. Lilla Cabot Perry
Hancock, N. H., Feb. 28. - (AP) - Mrs. Lilla Cabot Perry, mother of the wife of Joseph C. Grew, United States Ambassador to Japan, died today. She was about 70 years old.
Mrs. Perry was known as an artist and author. She had studied art in Paris and this country and had won medals for her work. She first exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1889 and interspersed her painting with writing. One of her works was "Poems in Prose", translated from Tourguenieff.
A native of Boston, Mrs. Perry retained a residence there even though she spent most of her time here during the last thirty years. In 1874 she married Thomas Sergeant Perry, an author. He died five years ago.

MANCHESTER, Mass., Aug. 16 -- Mrs. Alice de Vermandois Perry Grew, wife of Joseph Park grew, the diplomat, died this morning in Beverly Hospital after suffering a heart attack five days ago at the family's summer home on Smith Point here. She was 75 years old.
Mrs. Grew was married to Mr. Grew in 1905, a year after he entered the foreign service. She had already gained a background for the extensive travels on which his career carried him, particularly to Japan, where he served as ambassador for ten years until the outbreak of World War II.
She had lived in Japan for three years. Mrs. Grew was a great-grandniece of Commodore Matthew Calbraith Perry, the man whose shipps opened Japan to world commerce in 1853.
Besides her husband, she leaves three daughters, all of whom are married to foreign service officers. They are Mrs. Albert Levitt, Mrs. Anita Grew English, and Mrs. Cecil B. Lyon. She also leaves a sister, Miss Margaret Perry.
