Merle W. Kuhn remembers being at the Steadman family reunion about 1942 when Fred slid down the highest sliding board at Glenwood Park in Erie. As he hit the bottom of the slide, the jolt caused him to bite the back of his tounge, and his dad had to rush him to the hospital.
