    Notes per Cres Shields:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------  -------------------------------------------------------
Franklin had a farm in Bowman, SC.  He grew cotton, corn and sugar cane. When he was sober, he was a good man.  Had some characteristics of I. C. Shields, Sr.  He had a zest for living:  owning the nicest and the newest.

He was the town clerk of Bowman, SC, and operated a general store in Bowman. He was a good businessman.

He chewed tobacco and spit into a spitoon.  He would smoke cigars unless he was drinking, then he'd smoke cigarettes.

He was a binge drinker.  A year or 2 before death, he was put in the hospital.  Agnes and Edna Lloyd committed him.  When he was drunk, he'd cry and slobber and become like a pathetic child.
