Edith Gertrude Cole

Mrs. Harley (Edith) Cole, age 82, a resident of Gary passed away suddenly at her home in Gary on March 27, 1989. Mrs. Cole was born January 21, 1907 on a farm in Glenwood Township, Deuel County, SD, a daughter of Nathan and Cornelia (Stedman) Lansing.

She grew up near Gary and graduated from Gary High School. She then attended General Beadle Teachers College at Madison and received her teaching certificate.

She was united in marriage to Harley Cole on June 27, 1930 at Hastings, MN.

After their marriage they lived in several locations in South Dakota while her husband was employed by the State Highway Department. In 1945, they moved to Clear Lake where Harley was County Highway Superintendent. Edith taught school in rural schools, the Goodwin School and Clear Lake schools. They retired and moved to Gary in 1967.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women; She was also a longtime member of the Rebecca Lodge at Gary.

She is survived by her husband, Harley of Gary; one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Cornelia) Limberg of rural Marietta, MN, and three grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son.

Funeral services were held on March 31, 1989 at 10:30 am at the United Methodist Church in Gary with Rev. Russell Peirce officiating. Casket bearers were Erick Koeppen, Harvey Nelson, Harry Olsen, Bob Gage, Robert Briggs and Perry Heaton.
