    • Obituary - Viola Stedman - 11 June 1972

      Mrs. Viola (Brown) Stedman of North Stonington died early this morning at the Village Green Convalescent Home, Old Mystic.  Her husband, George R. Stedman, died in 1963.

      Mrs. Stedman was born June 22, 1885, in North Stonington, the daughter of William C. and Lucy (Crandall) Brown.

      Mrs. Stedman was a member of the Third Baptist Church in North Stonington for the past 75 years.  She was also a member of the North Stonington Grange.

      She is survivied by four sons, Merton R. Stedman of East Hartford, Carroll Stedman of Hopkinton, Wallace Stedman of Stonington, and George Stedman of North Stonington; three daughters, Mrs. Herman Edgecomb of Groton, Mrs. Charles S. Stillman of North Stonington, and Mrs. Mary Zeller of West Kingston; 16 grandchildren; and 42 great-grandchildren.

      Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Third Baptist Church, North Stonington.  Internment will be in Wheeler Cemetery, North Stonington.  Friends may call at the Church and Allen Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., Mystic Monday evening from 7 to 9.

      STEDMAN - In Old Mystic, Conn., June 11, 1972, Mrs. Viola (Brown) Stedman, widow of George R. Stedman of North Stonington, Conn.

      Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 13, at 11 a.m. at Third Baptist Church, North Stonington, Conn.  Internment in Wheeler Cemetery, North Stonington.  Friends may call at the Church and Allen Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., Mystic, Monday evening 7 to 9.

      Obituary: Viola Stedman - 13 June 1972

      Funeral services for Mrs. Viola (Brown) Stedman of North Stonington, were held Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock in the Third Baptist Church of North Stonington.

      The service was conducted by Rev. John Zendzian, pastor, who was assisted by Rev. Merle Springe, past or of the Old Mystic Baptist Church, who sang "What a Friend We Have in Jesus."

      Internment was in Wheeler Cemetery, North Stonington.  The bearers were George Stedman, Harold Stedman, Winfield Stedman, Phillip Stedman, Raymond Saxton and Wayne Williams, all grandsons of Mrs. Stedman.

      Mrs. Stedman, wife of the late George R. Stedman, died at the Village Green Convalescent Home, Old Mystic, on June 11.

    • Mr. and Mrs. Stedman Observe Anniversary

      Mr. and Mrs. George R. Stedman of North Stonington celebrated their  60th wedding anniversary Thursday with an open house for relatives and friends.

      Mr. and Mrs. Stedman were married at the parsonage of the Stonington Baptist Church on December 27, 1902 by Rev. Thomas McClement.

      They are the parents of seven children, Richard Stedman of Hartford; Carroll Stedman of Hopkinton; George Stedman of North Stonington; Wallace Stedman of Stonington; Mrs. Cecile Stillman of North Stonington; Mary Zeller of West Kingston; and Carolyn Edgecomb of Groton.  Carroll Stedman and Mrs. Carolyn Edgecomb are twins.

      Present for the occasion was Rev. Ralph Howe, pastor of the Second Baptist Church of North tonington, who took mving pictures of the festivities.

      The guest of honor received many lovely gift, and a large sum of money. They also cut a four-tier anniversary cake.
