Karl Steedman Rossner, 81, a professinal musician whose work ranged from the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra to band stints with Bing Crosby and Johnny Mathis, died at his Santa Barbara home Saturday after a long illness.
Born Sept. 8, 1907, in Chicago, he was a graduate of the Juliard School of Music in New York and spent 25 years playing in various bands, performd in Las Vegas and touring with celebrities.
He played with the Los Angeles Philharmonic for 20 years, specializing in the cello.
He also worked as a musician with ABC radio and played for movie sound tracks. He moved here from Palos Verdees in 1974.
His wife, Elizabeth, died here in 1988. He is survived by two sons, Dennis Steadman Rossner of Santa Barbara and Gregory Glen Rossner. Graveside services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Santa Barbara Cemetery. Welch-Ryce-Haider is in charge of arrangements.
