- Mark Gordon met James Hazen Gordon, Jr., in Tucson where he spends his winters at his sister's (Janet Leedy Gordon Roach) home. He normally lived in Cottonwood (AZ), moving permanently to Tucson in the Fall of 1996. He suffered from severe diabetes which led to renal failure and, eventually, death.
James Gordon worked as a radio officer in commercial shipping. He graduated from Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. Lived for several years in Anchorage, where he worked in a Graybar electrical store.
He married and adopted his wife's daughters Diana Wickizer and Peggy Gordon of Portland, Oregon, at time of death.
One evening he told MAG about driving to Alaska via the AlCan highway in winter, with his stepdaughter daughter. Temperatures ranged downward to -70F.
He died on April 30, 1997, at his sister's (Janet Gordon Roach) home in Tucson. His ashes were scattered in Tucson. The obituary notice was in the Arizona Daily Star (Tucson) on May 1, 1997.
