- When the U. S. 1800 census of Killingly, Windham County, CT, was taken Jonathan J. (John Jenkes) Durphey's family was 3 males 0-10, 1 male 16-26, 1 male over 45, 1 female 16-26 and 1 female over 45. This is obviously the combined family of John and his son David.
On February 1, 1801, John's wife Anna and son David and his wife Molly were baptized in the Congregational Church of South Killingly.
In May 1801, David Durfey was commissioned ensign in the 8th Company, 21st Regiment of Windham County, Connecticut, Militia. The regiment was commanded by Lt. Col. Shubael Hutchins. From the Colonial Records of Connecticut Volume 10, page 192.
On June 12, 1801, Lyman, Sterry and John Durfey, children of David and Molly were baptized in the South Killingly Congregational Church.
On June 5, 1803, Anna Durfey, daughter of David and Molly, was baptized in the South Killingly Congregational Church and in 1805, Eunice was baptized.
On July 7, 1809, John J. Durfey,of Killingly, deeded to David Durfey, of Killingly, 1/2 of the 130 acre farm on which " I now Live". Deeds Book 18, page 18.
About 1903, Mrs. S. W. Gerould, Ruth (Durfey) Beach's daughter, wrote William Field Reed and gave him most of the information on this family. She stated that her father David sold his half of the farm in Killingly, Windham County, CT, and moved to Smithfield in Northern Pennsylvania, in 1815.
When the U. S. 1830 census of Smithfield, Bradford County, PA, was taken David's family was 1 male under 5, 1 male 10-15, 1 male 15-20, 1 male 40-50, 1 female 20-30, and 1 female 50-60. Lyman was living in the next house.
When the U. S. 1840 census of Smithfield was taken his family was 1 male 60-70, and 1 female 60-70. Lyman and Harry were living in the houses next door.
When the U. S. 1850 census of Smithfield was taken his family was David Durfey 74, a farmer, born CT, Polly 73, born CT, Henry (Harry) 36, born CT, Louisa 33, born PA, Edson B. 7, born PA, and Polly 5, born PA. Lyman, E. G., and Sterrie were all living nearby.
