- Evangeline was the youngest child of Horatio Gates and Jane Wigton who were married in 1837 in Muskingum County, OH. Horatio was the son of Victor Gates, and Lady Mary Haddock. He was a farmer on part of the John Porter land, which Joseph Wigton had purchased in 1822, near Saltillo, Perry County, OH. Horatio died June 5, 1885. Jane (Wigton) Gates was born
February 13, 1815 in Fairfield County, OH, she died 29 May, 1901. Both are buried in the Roseville Cemetery, Perry County, OH.

1. Sarah Jane, b. 10 April 1838 d. 8 April 1910, never married.
2. Mary, b. 19 Dec. 1839 d. ? Oct. 1925, married Thomas Downey.
3. Emma, b. 27 Dec. 1841 d. 15 Mar. 1870, married William J. Edwards.
4. Victor Milton, b. 1 Feb. 1844 (twin) d. 30 Dec. 1850.
5. Victoria b. 1 Feb. 1844 (twin) d. ? July 1934, married Peter Nagel.
6. John Gilbert b. 8 Jan. 1846 d. ? ?, married Kate Swain.
7. Julia b. 23 June 1847 d. 21 Nov. 1925, married Alexander Sanderson.
8. Delilah b. 6 June 1849 d. 5 Mar. 1889, married Bradford Lott.
9. Evangeline.
She was married at the home of her parents near Saltillo, Perry Co., OH, in a Presbyterian ceremony, by Rev. H. H. Beeman, on Wed. at 7:00 p. m.
She died at her home of consumption in Pataskala, Licking Co., OH, Wednesday morning at 6:00, at age 29 years 1 month, and 11 days.
