      Donald Leonard Steadman, 79, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, friend passed away March 5, 1999, from cancer.

      Born January 20, 1920, in Sandy, Utah, to Leonard Reuben Steadman and Norma Monson Steadman. Married Donna Bateman March 30, 1942, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. As a young man, he served two years in the Central States LDS Mission. Don served as an Elders Quorum Presient, Sunday School Superintendent, Stake Missionary, Bishopric Counselor, Stake High Councilman, and in numerous other leadership positions. He and his wife recently completed a 15 year mission at the Granite Mountain Records Vault.

      During World War II, Don earned his wings and served as a pilot instructor. After the war, he returned to Sandy and assisted his father in farming. For much of his life, Don raised purebred Suffolk sheep. He also was a cemetery superintendent, Utah State Prison guard, television technician , and the Quality Assurance Manager for a major electronics firm. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, and camping with family and friends. He and his wife enjoyed spending time with their "Study Group" for over 50 years.

      He is survived by his eternal companion of 57 years, Donna, Sandy; son, Bryan (Deborah) Steadman, Layton; son, Bruce (Kristie) Steadman; daughter, Brenda (Mark) Haymond; daughter, Betsey Christopherson, all Sandy; 24 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; brother, Roland Max (Dorothy) Steadman, Afton, Wyoming; sister, Nancy (Richard) Bishop, Sandy. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Wayne Steadman; sister, Bonnie Lou Steadman; sister, Betty (Don) Seaquist; grandson, Michael Steadman.

      Funeral services will be held Monday, March 8, 1999, at 11 a.m. in the Sandy Utah Crescent South Stake Center, 275 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah. Friends may call at Goff Mortuary 8090 So. State Sunday 6-8 p.m. and Monday at the stake center from 9-10:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the West Jordan City Cemetery.
