    • Mrs. C. W. Johnson.

Mrs. Mary Stedman, wife of Charles W. Johnson, died about 7 o'clock last evening at her home, No. 70 Elm Street. She had been sick for many years and her death was not unexpected by those aware of her condition.

Mrs. Johnson was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Griffin A. Stedman and was born in this city. Her oldest brother was General Griffin A. Stedman, who was killed August 5, 1864, at Petersburgh, Va., and whose statue surmounts the Campfield monument. Three other brothers, Robert A. Stedman, at one time a resident of this city, but now of New York, Ernest G. Stedman, a lawyer of New York, and Edmund A. Stedman, formerly of this city, but who for the past few years has resided in New London, and a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Stedman of this city, survive her. In 1870 she was married to Mr. Johnson, who was at that time  and for a long time afterwards clerk of the superior court of Hartford county. Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Miss Mabel and Miss Eleanor Johnson. From her girlhood, by reason of her high character and charming personality, she was a recognized leader in every relation of life. Miss Robinson, sister of Hon. Henry C. Robinson and now Mrs. Nathaniel Shipman, and Miss Macey, daughter of General Macey and now widow of Gen George B. McLellan, were her intimate friends from earliest girlhood, and the intimacy was kept up through life.

The funeral will be held Monday afternoon, but the details have not yet been arranged.
