Augustus G. Whitcomb was 19 and a farmer living in Boxboro, Middlesex Co., MA, when he enlisted as a Private in Co. E of the 6th Mass. Infantry on Aug 25, 1862. He was mustered into federal service on Aug 31, 1862. He was mustered out of the service on June 3, 1863, at Lowell, MA.
