    • This is the last Will and Testament of me, Thomas Stedman of Colchester in the County of Essex, Bookkeeper, which I make in manner following that is to say first I give and devise unto my two sons, John Stedman and William Golding Stedman all that my ffreehold messuage or tenement land and hereditaments with the appurtenances situate in the parish of Nayland in the county of Suffolk, now or late in the occupation of Robert Green and also all that my copyhold messuage, tenement and heriditaments with the appurtenances situate in the parish of Mount Bures in the county of Essex [this is a few miles NW of Colchester] now in the occupation of my ffather Thomas Stedman and one Roberts or their assigns and all other my Real Estate whatsoever and wheresoever to hold the same unto them my said sons John Stedman and William Golding Stedman their heirs and assigns for ever as tenants in common and not as joint tenanats subject nevertheless

      and I do hereby charge and subject all and singular my said Real Estate with and to the payment of the yearly sum of ten pounds which I do hereby give and bequeath unto my said ffather Thomas Stedman of Mount Bures aforesaid for and during the term of his natural life to be issuing, paid and payable unto my said ffather and his assigns free from all deduction and abatement whatsoever by two even and actual half yearly payments to commence from the day of my decease and the first half yearly payment to be made at the end of six calendar months next afterwards and my will is and I do hereby direct that if the said yearly sum of ten pounds or any half yearly payment thereof or any part of the same shall be in arrears or unpaid for the space of thirty days next after any of the days or times whereon the same ought to be paid as aforesaid then and at any time or times thereafter when and as often as the case shall happen it shall and may be lawful to and for my said ffather into and upon all and singular my said Real Estate or into or upon any part or parts thereof to order and distrain for the said yearly sum of ten pounds or so much thereof as shall be then in arrears or unpaid as aforesaid and the distress and distresses then and there found and taken to detain and keep until the said yearly sum and all arrears thereof and all expenses attending distress and distresses shall be fully paid and in default thereof in one time after such distress or distresses taken to sell and dispose thereof to the intent that he or they may be thereby fully satisfied and paid the said yearly sum of ten pounds and all arrears thereof and all costs charges and expenses relating to or attending the recovering or obtaining payment of the same

      and I give and bequeath unto my dear wife Olive Stedman such parts of my household ffurniture and effects as she may make choice of not exceeding in value the sum of fifty pounds to and for her own use and benefit absolutely which I will and direct shall be accepted and taken by her in lieu and full satisfaction of and for all claim right and title of or for ?dower thirds or ffreeb...cth by Common Law Custom or otherwise of, into or out of all or any part of my Real Estatess

      and as to all the rest and residue of which my said wife is an actual part and ??? [Difficult to read, but wonder if it could be another word for pregnant or 'with child'] or actual parts and shares of

      and in my said Real and Personal Estate and effects with my other two children within mentioned and to hold the same to such child or children of which my said wife may so to be and to his, her or their heirs Executors Adm'ors and assigns according to the nature and quality thereof as Tenants or Tenants in Common with aforesaid within named children also

      I give to my sister Charlotte who has lately married, the sum of twenty pounds,

      I give to my sister Sarah Ffowler wife of William Ffowler five pounds

      and I do in all other respects ratify and confirm my said Will witness my hand and seal the 11th November.

      Signed sealed and published and declared by the said Testator in our presence as a Codicil to his Will amd we in his presence and in the presence of oath other have set our names as witnesses, Thomas Blyth, William Fowler N Sparling.

      Proved at London with a Codicil 5th June 1820 before the #Judge by the oaths of John Stedman and Samuel Golding the Exors to whom adm'on was granted has been first sworn by Com'on July to Adm?
