      --------------------------
John Stedman may have come to East Tennesee earlier ? (no date) and settled near Jonesboro.

1812, Tax List owning 50 acres in Sullivan Co., TN

John Steadman was in Sullivan County before 1814.  He sold land at this date (60 acres) on the Clear Fork branch of Horse Creek, (Clear Fork is today called Mill Creek) and 60 acres "on knobs" ... also on waters of Horse Creek… the "Clear Fork" tract "included a place called pigpen, and houses, "building etc...".

One of his children apparently stayed on a portion of this land or for some other reason because he does not sell 96 acres of it until 1829. All of the above land was on and near Clear Fork & Blair's Gap (stone) ...  Many of the Goad families (also spelled Good, Goode) lived in this area (after they sold their 1st land grant land seen on Spoden map. Descendants of the Goads still (as of 1972) live in the Blair's Gap section (one right on top of the Mtn.)  One of the old Goad houses is still (1972) standing...  built in 1782.

John Steadman with his sons, John Steadman and Thomas Steadman purchased site shown on Spoden Map (Item 194) 350 acres for $1000 from Joshua Pearce... part of this place may still be standing (there is some question about it).  (Jan. 1831).  Then in 1840 John Steadman sells his share of this same land to his son, John Steadman who is called Jr. for $300.
