||John Steadman |
- A John Steadman purchased land from James Patton in Augusta Co., VA. 1753 (Ref. Augusta Co., Land Records. Also check Summers, Hist. SW VA. & Annals of SW VA.).
DEED BOOK No. 6, Augusta County, VA. (from Chaulkey)
Page 147.--17th December, 1753. Patton to John Stedham, 190 acres by patent 3d November, 1750, east side of the creek. (?) Teste: Jacob Patton, Sarah (her mark) Patton.
John Steadman (1st) left VA. And went to S.C. about 1762. (Ref. Ralph Steadman, 1131 Knollwood Ln, Kingsport & John Steadman, 401 Rock Springs Rd., Kingsport, TN, as related to Muriel Stoden (Mrs. Hal T.), 1638 Crescent Dr., Kingsport, TN 37664, sometime before March 14, 1972)
[I think this is confusing this John Steadman with the John Steedman who arrived in SC about 1760 from Scotland.]
John Steadman had a brother, James, who stayed in VA. (1762, Ref.: Augusta Co., Land Records. Also check Summers, Hist. SW VA. & Annals of SW VA.).
