After his return from India, in 1852, where his regiment was then, he was appointed to a Majority in the Turkish Contingent Cavalry, and was on his passage in August, 1855, to the Crimea, to join his Regiment, when he was unfortunately attacked with a severe fit of gout, which his constitution, debilitated as it was, by long and active service in both the West Indies, Africa, and Asia, was unable to withstand, and he sank under it.
