    Notes
    • The Town of Concord records in the first book proclaim:

"Mary Piper ye davghter of Samvel & Mary his wife was Born September:30:1756."

Her father Samuel Piper was from a line of Pipers that had originally settled in Ipswich and had been there for 4 generations since the late 1600's; her mother Mary Buttrick was also equally 4th generation-descended from the Buttricks who were original settlers of Concord.

On April 19th, 1775 an 18 year-old Mary found herself tending to the wounds of a British soldier (who was involved at the Concord Bridge incident earlier that morning), Samuel Lee, at the residence of Dr. Timothy Minot in Concord. She eventually took a liking to this gentleman (who never returned to the British military and was declared missing or deserted by them) and they were married by one account on 11 Jun 1776.

They went on to have 5 children, all born in Concord as the Town records state:
      1. Mary "Polly" Lee, b. 11 Jan 1777 (Mrs. Williams)
      2. Samuel Lee, b. 14 Dec 1779
      3. Sarah "Sally" Lee, b. 20 Sep 1782 (Mrs. Hosmer; Mrs. Eastman)
      4. Amos Lee, b. 28 Jul 1785
      5. Rufus Lee, b. 4 Dec 1788

Her husband Sam died in 1790, and with this youthful brood Mary was helped a bit later by her marriage to Joseph Hoar in May of 1794.

They had two more children, one daughter dying at slightly over two years old, and the other, Harriott, who married Joshua Haynes, the namesake and grandson of a Revolutionary War veteran, Lieut. Joshua Haynes, who was present at the Lexington Alarm.

Joseph sadly died 6 years after their marriage, in 1800; Mary survived him by 25 years, seeing her children marry and start families of their own.
