    These ancestors are my big brick wall-a pair who seemingly dropped out of the sky, origins unknown.  I am hoping one of you might have a scrap of information that might help solve the mystery of their origins, the identity of William's first wife, or the names of his two children with his first wife.  William Robinson Allen first appears in the 1790 South Kingstown census.  He was a resident of South Kingstown until the day he died, living in the Matunuck Hills area and, later in life, closer to Old Post Rd.

    William Robinson Allen b cal. 1764 in Rhode Island, probably S. Kingstown; d S. Kingstown 7 Nov 1851; mar. (1) before 1790 wife unknown; 2 children, 1 male and 1 female recorded in 1790, ages 10-16 in 1800 census, say b 1784-1790, names unknown; mar. (2) before 1795 to Unis/Eunice, b cal. 1774, d S. Kingstown 20 April 1844; children of William and Unis, all born S. Kingstown:

    My guess is that William mar. the first time ca 1785, had two child with his first wife, became a widower with two small children sometime after 1790 census and remarried to Unis ca 1793/94.  The only trace of Unis is her being named on marriage and death records for her children and an 1843 land record.  Her death is mentioned in Daniel Stedman's diary, as the wife of William Allen. After years of exhaustive research done by my cousin, and my own the last 4 years, we are no closer to knowing the origins of these two than we were when the journey started!
