The following extract from the Roll of Arms, Temp., Henry III (1216-1272), shews that his Armorial Bearings were recorded at that period, "Monsire de Barton de Fryton port d'ermiine, sur les fes gules, trois annulets d'or."

In 1299 Edward I (1272-1307) granted to him, by Charter Roll, "free warren, &c., in all his demeanes of Fryton, Holthorp, &c., Co. York."

Thomas Barton, the younger, was of Ainderby and Kirklington in County York.

Between the 6th and 12th years of King John (1199-1216) he made a grant of land to the monks of Fountaines, whose celebrated abbey was situated at Rieval (or Riveaux), near Helmsley, in County York. The abbey was about twelve miles northeast from Ainderby.

Thomas married Cecily/Cecilia ____, who survived him. He had two sons.
