Description: I believe that my Great grandfather John Marshall Kelly may be a younger brother of Henry Patrick Kelly the son of Francis Marion Kelly and his 2nd wife Susannah R. Jones based on the following evidence:

1. Henry Patrick Kelly, your documented son of this Francis M. Kelly and wife Susannah Jones, was 58 years old living in Rushville, Schuyler County, Illinois, in June 1896, when he wrote an affidavit for his brother John Marshall Kelly who was trying to get a veteran's disability pension based on his civil war service. His brother, John Marshall Kelly, was in poor health for most of his 30 years of life after the Civil War. In June and July 1896, John Marshall Kelly filed several affidavits in an attempt to receive a disability pension. One of these was written by his brother Henry P. Kelly, age 58, of Rushville, Schuyler County, Illinois, on June 25, 1896. "I am a brother of the claimant John M. Kelly. In 1874 I resided in Fulton County, Illinois, and my brother came to my house in harvest time in 1874. Was sick and in bed nearly six weeks with the rheumatism and piles. Got a little better and then he went to my sister's about a mile and a half and stayed there as I recollect until about the end of September 1874, they then moved to Dewitt County, Illinois, and I have not heard from him or seen him since until this week received a letter from him. How I knew that he was sick is I made his security on the doctor bill and I had to pay while he was at my house and at my sister's. I did not think he would get up again, but he did. As to his condition since 1874 in the Fall, I know nothing of his condition except for the letters I receive." The above affidavit also mentions a sister of Henry Patrick Kelly and John Marshall Kelly.

2. John Marshall Kelly named his first son Francis Marion Kelly thus my assumption that your Francis M. Kelly had the middle name of Marion.
