    Notes:

    In the tenth report of the Record Commissioners of Boston, Thomas Stedman was assessed in 1693 a tax of £1 3 shillings for the relief of the poor and to defray other town charges.  He was also assess a tax £3 for house and farm and £15 for estate.

    In 1704 he (Thomas Stedman, Sr.) was one of the authors of a petition to the Gouvernor Council and Assembly asking to separate Muddy River as a separate village, and no longer part of Boston.  The petition was signed by his sons Thomas and Joshua in addition to himself (claiming 2 adult men in household - himself and son Joseph?)

    Dea. James Trowbridge, b. in Dorchester, 1636, d. May 22, 1717.  On attaining his majority, he returned to Dorchester and m. 1st, Dec. 3, 1659, Margaret Atherton, who d. June 17, 1672, da. of Maj. Gen. Humphrey Atherton, who came from England and settled in Dorchester ab. 1636. He succeeded Gen. Robert Sedgwick as commander of the military forces, was employed in negotiations with the indians and was killed by falling from his horse while reviewing the militia on Boston common, Sept. 17, 1661. He m. 2d, Jan. 30, 1674, Margaret Jackson, b. June 20, 1649, d. Sept. 16, 1727 (see Jackson family, Rev. Thomas2). He moved to Cambridge Village after called Nonantum, and now Newton, 1664 and purchased 85 acres of land with dwelling and outbuildings, which he had occupied for some years, of Deputy Gov. Danforth. After the d. of Dea. John Jackson, he was chosen deacon of the ch., 1675. By his will dated 1709, he bequeathed all the lands he had of his father in Dorchester to all his children equally, and those that came to him thro his father-in-law, Atherton to the children of his 1st wife, equally.  He had Elizabeth, b.     James TROWBRIDGE of Dorchester, son of Thomas, m. Dec 30, 1659 Margaret, daughter of Major General Humphrey Atherton of Dorchester.  He settled first in Dorchester and he moved to Newton about 1664, when his wife was dismissed from Dorchester Church to a church formed in Nonantum (Newton) of which he was afterwards a deacon. His wife died 1672 and he m. (2) Margaret _____. [Torrey, p.754 has Margaret Jackson.]

    He died May 22, 1717 and his widow died Sept 16, 1727.  In his will he mentions his father Thomas; his father-in-law, Humphrey Atherton; his brothers John Ward and John Hides and his brother-in-law, Elyas Kendrick.   Children:
