    Sir John Barton, the elder son, was living in 1328, and was deceased in 1336.

    He married Agnes, daughter of Sir Anketynus Salvyn, of Thorp Salvyn, Co. York, Knight, who died 1350.

    In the Herald's Visitation for Yorkshire, 1584, the Lady of Sir John is denominated Elizabeth.  There can be no doubt that her name was Agnes in as much as in a very extraordinary Entail of property in Havergate, in the city of York, dated 21 May 1328, made by her Father, Sir Anketynus, she is there styled Agnes, and the name is thrice repeated.

    ENTAIL IN THE FAMILY OF BARTON, OF FRYTON, OF PROPERTY IN HAVERGATE, YORK.

    The deed, of which the following is a careful and copious extract, is in my possession. " Haver lane," says Drake, " leads from Hungate, with gardens on both sides, to Peaseholme-green." (History of York, fol. 1736, p. 312.) There were four churches dedicated to All Saints in York ; that here mentioned was probably Allhallows in Peaseholme. Nicholas Langton was Mayor from 1322 to 1333, and again from 1340 to 1342; and Sir Anketine Salvayn appears to have died in 1350, as Drake (p. 287) quotes his inquisition post mortem as being dated the 25th Edw. III.no. 57.

    Notes:

    Sir Thomas Barton de Fryton and and Whenby, Knight, the second son, married 1357, Alicia, daughter and heiress of Sir John Moryn, Lord of Whenby, Co. York, Knight, and in Right of his Wife, was Lord of Whenby.

    In a MS. collection of Yorkshire Pedigrees in the British Museum, it is stated that Sir THomas married a daughter of Marmaduke Wyville and had issue 1st Robert, who died without issue, and 2nd Thomas, who married the daughter and co-heir of Sir John Morevyle.

    If Sir Thomas ever married a daughter of Marmaduke Wyville, she may have been his first wife, by whom there was no surviving issue.  At all events, the succession was continued through the issue of the marriage of Sir Thomas with Alicia, daughter of Sir John Moryn, not Morevyle.

    This is confirmed by the Herald's Visitaiton of Yorkshire 1584, and also by a Record in the Court of Exchequer, 19 King Edward III (1346), by which it is shewn that in an action at law in that Court, "The Jurors find that Thomas Barton (that is, Thomas Barton of Kingston on Hull) married Beatrice, daughter and heir of William Burdett and that she was then of the age of 30 years."

    To this finding of the Jury is subjoined a Pedigree of Barton of Fryton, shewing that Thomas (Sir) Barton married ____ daughter and coheir of Sir John Moryn, of Whenby, Knight, 30 Edward III, 1357.
