    • MRS. EUGENE E. LATSON

About a month ago Mr. and Mrs. Eugene E. LATSON of this city celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary but their married life was nearly finished. Mrs. LATSON passed away Thursday, March 18, 1926, the funeral being held from the Baptist church Saturday afternoon, burial in Lakeview Cemetery at Howell.

Mary E. LOUNSBERY was born in Detroit on January 29, 1845. About one year after, she came with her parents to reside within the vicinity of Howell, and in this community from that date she has continued to be a resident.

On February 22, 1866, Miss LOUNSBERY was united in marriage to Eugene E. LATSON. The wedding taking place in the Baptist parsonage here in Howell, and simultaneously with that of her brother's marriage, Charles LOUNSBERY who was united in marriage to Miss Loraine LATSON, a sister of Eugene LATSON. The ceremony for the double event being performed by Rev. William TILLY, pastor of the Baptist church.

Mr. and Mrs. LATSON celebrated just a little less than a month ago their golden wedding anniversary, or rather their 60th wedding anniversary.

Of the union of Mr. and Mrs. LATSON, nine children were born, five still living and four having passed away, two sons and two daughters.

Mrs. LATSON with her husband were numbered among the pioneer settlers of this community, and as such faced and endured the struggles common to those early days, and with the care of a large family we know it was a considerable struggle. they began their career together on what is now as the Latson homestead, and a little later purchased a farm on Byron Road, where they made their home for 30 years, until 23 years ago when they moved here to Howell, to the home on North State Street.

Mrs. LATSON was a very industrious character, and a woman who was known and loved by many. Always ready to help, and do her part in anything for the good of the community. She was a charter member of the Howell Farmers' Club, and a very active member of its committees, in earlier days.

In 1865 she confessed the Lord Jesus Christ as her Saviour in a series of special meetings being conducted by Evangelist Madison and on December 31st, 1865 was baptised into the membership and fellowship of the First Baptist church of Howell, to which she has ever since been a most faithful and worthy and beloved member.

Mrs. LATSON has been of failing health for the last 20 years, and of very poor health the last five or six years, and has been entirely confined to the home since last fall.

In the passing of Mrs. LATSON, we lose one of our most substantial and respected citizens, a dutiful wife, a good mother, a beloved neighbor a true friend and a devoted christian and loyal church member. Her departure is indeed a loss to us, but it is her gain. She was ready and waiting, almost in her weakness, anxious for the summons home, and last Wednesday quietly the call came and she passed peacefully away to her rest and reward, leaving behind to mourn their loss, her aged husband, two brothers, Albert LOUNSBERY, South Boardman, Mich., John LOUNSBERY of West Howell, Mrs. Myrtie PERKINS of Howell, Mrs. Millie TONCRAY of Howell, two sons, Mr. Roy LATSON and Mr. Albert LATSON of Howell, there are also 17 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, besides the host of friends and relatives, who will miss her.
