Proposed Change: Darley I. Loomis (I16332)
Tree: Stedman/Steadman/Steedman Families of the New World
Description: Darley I. Loomis was married to Edith Emily McDowell
(Birth 14 September 1878 in Ohio, United States
Death 25 January 1936)
They were married 24 September 1896 and had 1 son, Dean Douglas Loomis who died in a carriage accident just shy of his third birthday. I do know the marriage ended in divorce, although I do not currently have specific dates for such, only that Edith was married three more times and had no other offspring.
I am a direct descendant of Edith's younger brother Allen McDowell.

Married |
Bef 23 May 1920 |
- From Todd Downing, Aug 2012:
"She married Hawaiian territorial senator John H. Wise in 1920 (not sure if they were married in Honolulu or Washington DC, where she was living and working as a newspaper correspondent). What we do know is that she and her younger sister Grace went to Honolulu, fell in love with Hawaiian music, and became recording artists and radio celebrities shortly thereafter. From what I've found in newspaper archives, Edith's marriage to John H. Wise lasted less than a year - they were married and divorced during 1920."

- Hawaiian Senator Wins bride in Washington
Senator John H. Wise and Mrs. Wise, nee Miss Edith McDowell
Senator John H. Wise of Hawaii little dreamed that when he went to Washington a month or so ago to represent his country and plead for statehood for Hawaii that he would fall in love. He was married recently to Miss Edith McDowell whom he met while she was a correspondent for a Washington paper. Wise is a native Hawaiian, a member of the territorial legislature and a delagate to the Republican national committee.

- From Todd Downing, August 2012:
"Her fourth and final marriage was to William Francis Beers (1852-1935), a person of some importance in Galveston TX. This would have happened after the death of Beers' first wife, Iola Barns of New Orleans LA (1852-1925). I
would guess toward the end of their lives, as he died the year before Edith did."
