      John

Thanks for the information!  Very encouraging to learn I might be on the right track with the Pemberton line. I  will contact Dan Buckley.

Who is the Thomas Stedman you mentioned?  Brother of Eli/Elias jr & Judah, or Uncle?

Here's what I have on Judah and her immediate family. She and Benjamin left Newberry Dist. South Carolina sometime after the 1800 census. Kentucky records show that in 1803 a Benjamin Worthington was granted "400 ac Muhlenburg Co, watercourse Pond R" .  You may have seen the Kentucky grant record that shows Eli Stedman receiving  "200 ac Livingston Co.  watercourse Dryfork Eddy Cr" in 1807.

Judah and Ben migrated from KY to AL in 1817 (date by family lore), where they began farming cotton near Trussville, AL.  Ben was serving in the Alabama House of Reps by 1824.  Ben and Judah's son, Benjamin Pinckney Worthington,  was a cotton farmer, and one of the founders of the city of Birmingham, AL.  Please see below for family dates, children, etc.

Benjamin (sr) is probably just plain Benjamin Worthington (no middle name). He was born (1771) to Quakers Samuel and Margaret (___?) Worthington, who had recently migrated from PA with Samuel's parents & a group of other Quakers to Frederick Co VA (Hopewell mm).

"Pinckney"  is a prominent name in Charleston, SC . It doesn't show up anywhere in my Worthington records until the early 19th century.  Have wondered if there is a Stedman-Pinckney connection, but have not found a link -- have you seen any indication of it?  At this point, I'm thinking the name might have been chosen for Ben & Judah's son,  Benjamin the younger, in honor of an admired "celebrity" of the day, Charles Cotesworth Pinckney, Declaration signer from SC.  Hope to be able to prove one way or the other, someday.

I'm now trying to find other family links for Judah Stedman in Newberry, SC.  Perhaps she did go there from Charleston to relatives, after her father died -- assuming she was born in Charleston. Seems likely, but ...?

I have five more generations back in the Worthington line, as well as those up to present -- probably too far off into a peripheral line for your purposes, but will be glad to share any or all, if you have any use for it, or know anyone who does.
