  Notes	John Stedman was born in July 1753 either in Windsor or Stafford, Connecticut and died in Southbridge, Massachusetts, in 1794. The Massachusetts soldiers' record states that he was a minuteman and served at least three months in the continental army during the siege of Boston.  Copeland's "History of Hampden County, Mass." says: "When the struggle of the colonies with the mother country broke out at Lexington, messengers were sent to the settlements on the Connecticut for soldiers, and sixty-two men from Springfield responded on the moment, of whom Chicopee furnished ... John Stedman and Phineas Stedman, Jr. ... On April 24th, Gideon Burt's company was enlisted for three month's service as follows: ... privates: ... John Stedman ..." All of their children were probably born in Chicopee, Massachusetts.
